GRDC northern Pulse Check Meeting – Rand, 21 October

A pre-harvest meeting of the GRDC northern pulse check group at Rand will be held on Monday 21 October, 2019 at Rand, focussing on pre-harvest agronomy, storage and marketing.

Commencing at 3.00pm at Hamilton’s farm, Bogandillan, Rand, the meeting will begin with a paddock walk through  lentils, chickpeas and faba beans.  Chris Toohey will then speak on crop topping in pulses and insect management, and there will also be group discussion on header set-up for pulses.

Back at the sheds, Chris Warrick, Primary Business, will lead a discussion on storing pulses, managing pests in storage and options for expanding grain storage.  This will be followed by a presentation by Market Check, who will provide the latest information on the world pulse market and how it will impact prices this harvest.

Farmers Edge will be cooking a BBQ for attendees at the end of the session.

Riverine Plains Inc will be hosting a meeting of the GRDC Northern Pulse check group at Rand on Monday 21 October, 2019, from 3 to 6pm.

Grain storage specialist Chris Warrick, from Primary Business, will speak on the GRDC grain storage project as well as  storing pulses, managing pests in storage and options for expanding grain storage.

There will also be discussions on:

  • Pulse harvesting
  • Crop topping & dessication
  • Pulse markets: Ben McClusky, Market Check

GRDC southern Pulse Check Meeting – Dookie, 21 October

Riverine Plains Inc will be hosting a pre-harvest meeting of the GRDC Southern Pulse Check group at Dookie from 8:30am – 11am on Monday 21 October, 2019.

The meeting will begin at 8:30 with a visit to Alexander’s faba bean crop, followed by a visit to Binnie’s Albus lupin crop at 9:00, before moving to Binnie’s farm sheds.

Special guest will be Horsham grain storage specialist Chris Warrick, from Primary Business who will talk about storing pulses, managing pests in storage and options for expanding grain storage.

Other topics to be covered at the meeting include;

  • Nitrogen fixation and copper trials: John Alexander, Bungeet
  • Albus lupin fungicide trial: Jock Binnie, Bungeet

GRDC Farm Business Update, Mulwala – 25 June

The GRDC Farm to Profit Farm Business Update will be held on Tuesday 25 June 2019 at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort (1 Golf Club Road, Mulwala) from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm.

The GRDC Farm Business Update events drive innovation and adoption of improved farm business management practices across the grains industry.

The event will feature a great line up of topics that analyse critical aspects of decisions to improve farm profitability, including;

  • Storing grain on-farm with Chris Warrick (Primary Business)  – how to make it work and gain more value out of the supply chain
  • Buying, leasing or investing off-farm with Eric Nankivell (Farmanco)– what’s your limit and how do you test it?
  • Taking a profit first approach to precision agriculture (PA) with Kate Burke (Think Agri)
  • Farm business resilience – being profitable with climate variability with Chris Minehan (RMS Agricultural Consultants)
