SYKESY’S BURAJA MEETING 2020
Riverine Plains Inc will host the annual Sykesy’s Buraja Meeting on Thursday 6 February, 2020. This event continues the tradition started by the late John Sykes and is an opportunity for grain and mixed farmers to discuss the 2019 season as well as the key issues likely to arise in 2020.
“Sykesy’s Buraja Meeting is long-standing event which has been an important fixture on the local farming calendar for many years, attracting farmers from both NSW and Victoria” said Riverine Plains Inc Executive Officer, Fiona Hart.
“The Buraja meeting provides an opportunity for farmers to debrief about the previous season, including what performed well and what didn’t, while also providing an opportunity to hear about the local performance and market outlooks for wheat, barley and canola” said Fiona.
“Harvest results across the Riverine Plains region varied quite a lot during 2019, with some areas having quite good yields despite the lower-than-average growing season rainfall, while other farmers had to make early salvaging decisions or had poor grain yields as a result of the dry conditions” she said.
“With last year being so variable, the Buraja meeting will help flesh out the lessons from 2019 to help grain growers better prepare for 2020” she added.
Chris Minehan from Rural Management Strategies will facilitate a harvest debrief session, which will involve discussions around any likely flow-on effects from 2019, as well as other issues for 2020.
There will also be updates on regional wheat, barley and canola variety performance and options for planting in 2020, along with a grain marketing update.
Sykesy’s Buraja Meeting will be held on Thursday 6 February, 2020 at the Buraja Recreational Ground Hall, from 9am – 12:30pm. This event is free to attend and all are welcome. A BBQ lunch will be provided afterwards and no RSVP is necessary.
