Welcome to Research for the Riverine Plains, 2026.

A dry start to the 2025 main-season sowing window affected establishment for a number of our replicated and demonstration trials, with delayed sowing and emergence a common theme.  Despite this, we're pleased to report another successful trials and extension program, with loads of learnings and insights from right across the 26 trial sites spread throughout the Riverine Plains in 2025.

Some well-timed rains and access to stored moisture at depth helped many of our trials finish well, with a general lack of disease and mild temperatures at filling also helping maintain yield and quality; this was reflected in general crop yields across the region in 2025, with many commercial crops yielding above French and Schultz benchmarks.

A huge thanks to all the farmers who hosted our replicated, demonstration and monitor trials, your support is invaluable to the work that we do.

This year's edition of Research for the Riverine Plains features:

  • Insights from our Rennie trial block, including a malt barley trial

  • Companion cropping wheat and vetch at Sanger

  • Rainfall forecast accuracy comparison of BoM, YR, Weatherzone and Jane's Weather against our weather station network data

  • The Hyper Profitable Crops fungicide trial at Gerogery

  • Break crop fertility and organic manures final report

  • Case studies featuring Drought resilient mixed farming systems trials in NSW & Vic, long term weather outlooks, crown rot, companion cropping and summer cropping, vetch and wheat with Tony Ludeman and insights into sheep stock containment areas with Don Piper.
