We explored the topic “Putting farmers first – driving decisions using data” at the Riverine Plains Innovation Expo, held from Thursday 24 – Friday 25 August 2023 at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.
The Riverine Plains Innovation Expo had a focus on helping farmers future-proof and proactively manage their businesses in a rapidly changing global market.

Riverine Plains New Edge Microbials Gala Fundraising Dinner
This black-tie event was about having fun, getting together, and raising money to support the future of agriculture in our region.
The evening included a sit-down dinner, charity auction to raise funds for the Riverine Plains Scholarship Program, entertainment with comedian, Jean Kittson and a live band.
Riverine Plains Alvan Blanch Australia Farm Tour
Showcasing farming innovations across the region, the Riverine Plains Alvan Blanch Australia Farm Tour took a practical look at how farmers are adopting and employing new technologies and data to make better and more sustainable decisions.
The day included:
- liming demonstration at Rutherglen where participants heard about the Riverine Plains and GRDC Best Practice Liming demonstration and how it will help tackle subsurface acidity and improve long term farm productivity
- drone demonstration to show how drone technology is being used locally for spot spraying weeds
- demonstration of the Goldacres Weedetect precision spraying technology, showings its potential to dramatically reduce the use of chemicals on farm
- inspection of an Alvan Blanch Australia grain dryer system and how it integrates with a local farmer’s maize and cereal operation
