RESILIENT PASTURES DEMONSTRATION TRIAL
Pasture field walk at our Savernake lucerne trial site, demonstrating the impact of lucerne seeding rate and variety on pasture performance and persistence.
What we'll cover
- Sophie Hanna (Riverine Plains Livestock Officer) will introduce the project purpose and background.
- Chantelle Gorman (Host farmer) will give insight into why they were interested in this project and implemented this particular demonstration on their farm. This will be an opportunity to highlight what we have found so far and what it means for their production system and drought resilience.
- Sheree Hamson (Elders Albury Agronomist) discussing key topic areas, demonstration results interpretation (basal frequency, biomass, quality) and the implications of these results for performance and management.
- Shayne Mathews (Barenbrug Australia) will discuss the seed varieties sown in the trial, plus other relevant pasture varieties, explaining the most suitable varieties and sowing rates for different pasture systems; in terms of maximising performance and persistence across various seasons (wet and dry) and management systems (grazing systems, dryland and irrigated).
Morning tea provided. Contact our Livestock Officer Sophie Hanna for more details: sophie@riverineplains.org.au
