SCHOLARSHIPS
Young people with a passion for agriculture are important to the future of farming in the Riverine Plains.
AGRICULTURAL SCHOLARSHIPS Program
We know that rural and regional students face a range of challenges when pursuing tertiary studies. Students from non-farming backgrounds can also find it difficult to gain practical experience and establish networks in agriculture-related fields.
In 2024, Riverine Plains began a review of its scholarship program to ensure students were receiving not only financial support, but critical support entering careers in agriculture. As a result, Riverine Plains is partnering with the well-established and highly regarded AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship, to deliver a door-opening, relevant and rewarding scholarship experience for students from the Riverine Plains or looking to work in aligned areas to the Riverine Plains.
In 2025, Riverine Plains was proud to sponsor our first scholar, Marcus Attard, through the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship Program.
Marcus, who is studying a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (Resource Economics) at the University of Sydney, is receiving a $10,000 bursary over two years, professional development, and an industry placement with Riverine Plains.
Growing up in both Western Sydney and the Southern Tablelands, Marcus spent his weekends on the family farm, which inspired his passion for agriculture and resource economics. His goal is to help Australian farmers stay at the forefront of global markets, and he is grateful to Riverine Plains and the AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship Program for the opportunity to advance his career and deepen his understanding of agricultural supply chains.
Further information about our 2026 program will be available from this page later in the year.
The riverine Plains scholarship program
The Riverine Plains Scholarship Program has had a big impact on students from both farming and non-farming backgrounds working towards their qualifications in an agriculture-related field. Each of the scholarships offered through the Riverine Plains Scholarship Program recognised academic excellence and leadership potential, providing financial support, as well as an invaluable pathway to future employment through work experience and networking.
The Riverine Plains Scholarship Program is continuing to evolve, with our future offering still under review. We are grateful for the interest and support the program has received over the years and remain committed to supporting young people in agriculture. As new opportunities and pathways open up in the future, we will be sure to share them with our community.
"I’m incredibly honoured and thrilled to be the recipient of an Alvan Blanch Australian Agriculture Scholarship. Not coming from a traditional farming background, I’m eager to grow my community and meet fellow peers and industry leaders from different backgrounds, and the networking opportunities provided by Riverine Plains are really exciting for me. This scholarship allows me to immerse myself in further education while establishing a career that I am passionate about."
