ANNUAL PASTURE OPTIONS IN CROPPING SYSTEMS FIELD WALK, WITH A FOCUS ON HAY AND FODDER

Riverine Plains is demonstrating innovative cropping, grazing and mixed farming practices at a trial established at Howlong, in NSW, to support drought resilience and its risk management.

This field walk features a tour of the site, with an overall focus on how incorporating a pasture (for grazing or hay) into the cropping rotation can support system resilience. We will be exploring annual pasture options and how to maximise the production of high-quality fodder for grazing or hay/silage.

Topics & speakers:

  • The value of vetch in this years rotation and expected results: A farmer's perspective with Murk Schoen & agronomist Bob Ronald
  • Using clover and vetch for fodder or green/brown manuring: A farmer's perspective from Andrew Corrigin
  • Hay and fodder quality discussion, with an analysis of hay versus grain this season
  • Overall results from the project so far: Shawn McGrath, Charles Sturt University

Free to attend, Morning Tea provided.
