start exploring carbon opportunities that fit your farm
If you are interested in exploring practical strategies to improve farm productivity and resilience, while also storing carbon and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, please complete this Expression of Interest form.
Project overview
Delivered by Riverine Plains as part of the NSW Government’s Low Carbon Landscapes program, this project is aimed at supporting farm businesses in southern New South Wales (NSW) to explore practical strategies that align with farm profitability, productivity, and resilience.
Through farm-specific assessment and strategy scoping, Riverine Plains will work with selected farmers across the eligible areas to investigate opportunities such as soil carbon, native vegetation, grazing management, and lower-emissions farming systems, while also considering broader landscape and farm business co-benefits.
The project aims to support up to 18 farmers across the eligible areas and develop detailed case studies to help inform future decision-making by farmers, supply-chain partners, and investors.

Who can apply for this project?
This Expression of Interest is open to eligible grain and mixed farming businesses located within one of the project’s five target landscape areas (TLAs): Greater Hume, Lockhart, Federation, Berrigan and Murrumbidgee Irrigation Fringe. Participating farms must also be at least 500 hectares in size.
What if my farm is outside the eligible area?
If your farm is outside the listed target landscape areas, please do not complete the form. Instead, contact Sayra Samudio at sayra@riverineplains.org.au.
Why is there a minimum farm size of 500 hectares?
The 500-hectare minimum is a project eligibility threshold designed to focus support on farming businesses where carbon opportunities are more likely to achieve economies of scale. This includes considering how options such as soil carbon, lower-emissions farming systems or environmental plantings may fit within the business while maintaining a practical production base.
What does participation involve?
Participation is expected to involve sharing relevant farm information and engaging with the project team to assess practical carbon opportunities at a whole-of-farm level. Further details will be provided to selected participants during the next stage of the process.
Do I need to already have a carbon project in mind or prior experience to apply?
No. You do not need to have a fully developed carbon project idea or prior experience with carbon projects, emissions or natural capital. The project is designed to support eligible farmers in exploring practical opportunities that may suit their business and landscape context.
Will the project fund on-ground implementation?
No. This project is focused on carbon project design and assessment, not on funding on-ground implementation. Its purpose is to help farming businesses explore practical opportunities and develop investment-ready concepts.
Will I need to share farm data?
You may be asked to share relevant farm information if your Expression of Interest progresses to the next stage. This would help the project team assess opportunities at a whole-of-farm level. Any requirements would be discussed directly with selected participants.
What happens after I submit the form?
The project team will review your submission and contact you if your Expression of Interest is suitable for the next stage of the process.
Is this only about carbon credits?
No. The project is centred on farm profitability, productivity and resilience first. Carbon credits may be relevant in some cases, but they are not the only focus.
