ALTERNATIVE N SOURCES FIELD DAY – SANGER
Join us for a practical Alternative N Sources Field Day at Sanger to explore how companion cropping, intercropping and organic inputs like manure can influence nitrogen use and system performance.
This morning session will bring together researchers, agronomists and growers to unpack current trials and research findings.
Speakers and topics include:
- Sabita Duwal (Riverine Plains) will present in-field results and learnings from the GRDC Companion Cropping Project, with local context and management insights.
- Abe Gibson (Southern Cross University) will share outcomes from the Stinking Goat project, offering a grounded view of how and when intercropping strategies are most effective—and when they might not be. He’ll also touch on key considerations for growers exploring companion cropping in different systems.
- Kate Coffey (Riverine Plains) will explore the economics behind companion cropping and intercropping, providing a practical lens on profitability, resource efficiency, and decision-making for diverse farming systems.
- Ben Morris (FAR Australia) will present findings from the manure trial currently underway in partnership with Riverine Plains and discuss how organic inputs can support system performance.
This is a great opportunity to discuss system-based thinking, share experiences, and consider where companion cropping fits (or doesn’t) in mixed and continuous cropping operations.
The exact location of event will be provided upon registration
