Technology uptake program

Riverine Plains is working with farmers to increase the uptake of innovative agtech solutions that can drive efficiency and improve sustainability in our local farming systems.

Term
2023-2024

WHY THIS PROJECT IS NEEDED

The agritech space is complex and continually evolving. This means it can be difficult for farmers to work out which technology provides the best solution when solving a problem on farm.

The Technology uptake program is helping farmers in the Riverine Plains region understand the types of agritech that are available, and how it can benefit their farming operation.

This project follows on from Riverine Plains Producer technology uptake program, which involved online technology workshops and case studies of local farmers adopting new technology.

In short: The Producer technology uptake project aims to simplify the adoption of useful agritech by farmers through a series of workshops, field tours, and case studies.

Project focus

The AgriFutures Technology uptake program specifically aims to help farmers filter agritech information to make the process of navigating agritech options easier and less time consuming. The project is helping farmers avoid the ‘information overload’ that often occurs within this space, via a series of workshops, field tours, case studies and field days, to help farmers with the adoption process.

Project outcomes

The project has enabled Riverine Plains to run agritech workshops that have helped farmers understand what’s working and what’s not with new apps, identify gaps in the technology market and share their experiences with agritech in general. The project has also allowed a small group of members to trial Bayer’s Fieldview technology and learn about what the technology can offer farmers. Learnings from our focus group farmers will also be presented in a case study that will be available soon.

A demonstration of the Goldacres green-on-green technology ‘Weedetect’ at the 2023 Innovated Expo also showcased spot-spraying technologies now available to farmers.
