Capacity building to improve social outcomes of rural communities during dry times
Term
2026-2027
Project Officer
Lynn Macaulay
WHY THIS PROJECT IS NEEDED
Dry seasonal conditions affect more than farm production. They place pressure on rural businesses, households, community organisations and local service providers, often reducing confidence, increasing financial stress and limiting the time and capacity people have to connect, plan and access support.
By bringing people together through practical, local business-focussed workshops, this project is working to build stronger communication, social connection and collaboration across communities in the Goulburn region of Victoria.
In strengthening skills and networks, the project aims to support individuals and communities to better prepare for, adapt to and manage drought, and other major challenges, for increased resilience and long-term sustainability.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
As part of this project, Riverine Plains is hosting a series of workshops that focus on practical business systems, cashflow and budgeting.
The workshops will support participants to build their skills, knowledge and understanding of these key areas of business and organisational management, while improving access to useful services, resources and support. The workshops also aim to encourage participants to feel more confident in making decisions, strengthen individual leadership capacity, as well as provide an opportunity to expand personal and professional networks.
The workshops also provide an opportunity for a broad range of community members and organisations to participate in project activities, including rural businesses, farm businesses, community groups and local service providers.
Riverine Plains will host six workshops in total. Three of which are planned for October 2026.
