      Understanding adoptability of techniques and practices for improved soil management

      WHY THIS PROJECT WAS NEEDED

      This project used research methods, decision modelling, surveys, case studies and bio-economic modelling to deliver tools and resources to support policymakers, financiers, suppliers and farmers in adopting and using incentives.

      The first meeting of the project was led by Catherine Allan and provided farmers with the opportunity to discuss and prioritise their soils issues, the adoption of new practices as well as information sources. Additional discussions were held over the project term. 

      In short: This project involved farmer-led discussions to prioritise soil constraint management and the adoption of new practices, with practical real-world outcomes.

      Project background

      The Soils Co-operative Research Centre (CRC) for High Performance Soils was formed in 2017 to bridge a gap between soil scientists and farmers, and to ensure that soil performance is increased, both in the short term and long term.

      Riverine Plains is an associate within the Soil CRC and has been involved in many projects, ranging from social research to field trials. Our involvement has helped to guide projects and ensure they have a real-world application.
