SCOUT: Pairtree (Farm Data)

Supporting farmers to unlock ROI from their data - streamlining collection, reducing compliance time, and turning insights into action.

WHY THIS PROJECT IS NEEDED

Modern farms use multiple digital tools - Agworld, AgriWebb, Xero, weather stations, ISCC compliance data, grain and livestock market feeds - but the ROI for data collection is often lost when systems can’t talk to each other. Farmers and agronomists spend valuable time re-entering data, chasing records for compliance, or missing opportunities for precision timing in operations or markets.

Pairtree PLUS solves this by aggregating farm data from 100+ sources into one secure, farmer-controlled dashboard - certified under the NFF Farm Data Code. This allows Riverine Plains to help members access, understand, and monetise their data while keeping ownership and privacy front and centre.

Project objectives

  1. Demonstrate ROI: Show clear time, cost, and risk-reduction benefits from data aggregation.
  2. Simplify compliance: Automate generation of ISCC, GHG, and QA reports using existing farm data.
  3. Enhance agronomist efficiency: Provide advisers with “planned vs actual” dashboards to reduce wasted trips and improve decision confidence.
  4. Support regional innovation: Prototype a farm data dashboard tailored to members needs – from farmer consultation and trialling use cases.
  5. Enable scaling: Explore sponsored integrations and white-label options for advisors, carbon projects, and agribusinesses.

Focus areas

  • Efficiency gains: Centralising data eliminates duplicate entry, saving hours in administration and reporting.
  • Precision operations: Hyperlocal weather data, soil probes, and market prices in one place support better spray timing, irrigation, and selling decisions.
  • Compliance readiness: Auto-generate GHGe (GAF), ISCC, and emissions reports from live data feeds.
  • Financial benchmarking: Use integrated data to calculate gross margins, ROA, labour efficiency, and other key farm KPIs.
  • Data sovereignty: Build farmer confidence to aggregate and own their data, supporting data sovereignty and corporate knowledge protection for farm businesses.

Project plan

  • Phase 1 - Foundation: Survey members on data practices, current data collection sources (soil moisture probes, weather stations, accounting and farm management software) to understand where ROI can be achieved in the short and long-term.
  • Phase 2 - Early Pilot: Onboard pilot farms (e.g., Lilliput Ag) and test “traffic light” dashboards for agronomists, aligned with real farm use cases.
  • Phase 3 - Deep Pilot: Expand integrations (livestock, markets, compliance calculators) and benchmark ROI in time saved, operational precision, and compliance readiness.
  • Phase 4 - Evaluation: Document farmer and adviser case studies, adoption thresholds, and best-practice guides for wider adoption and optimisation.

Anticipated outcomes

  • Farmer time savings: Fewer hours spent compiling compliance documents or chasing scattered records.
  • Improved decision-making: Real-time dashboards supporting precision timing for operations and marketing.
  • Economic returns: Clear cost-benefit analysis of digital adoption, supporting investment decisions.
  • Adoption confidence: Case studies showing practical value across different farm systems to aggregate data (whether using Pairtree Plus or other systems).
