Sykesy’s Buraja Meeting Back for 2023

Riverine Plains is pleased to announce that Sykesy’s Buraja Meeting is back for 2023 and will be held on Wednesday 1 February.

This long-standing community event continues the tradition started by the late John Sykes and is an opportunity for grain and mixed farmers to debrief the 2022 season and plan ahead for 2023.

Riverine Plains CEO, Catherine Marriott said the group was especially pleased the event was returning to Buraja after a COVID-related break in 2022 and expected the day to be valuable for local farmers given the challenges of the past few seasons.

“Two wet harvests in a row have created a unique set of circumstances for the local farming community and Sykesy’s Buraja Meeting is a perfect chance to tease apart the things that worked, the things that didn’t and the key issues likely to impact grain and livestock production systems in 2023,” said Ms Marriott.

While Riverine Plains region grain growers have generally achieved better-than-expected yields over the past few years, many farmers have been impacted by flooding, harvest delays and high fertiliser prices and these issues will be addressed over the course of the day.

The meeting will begin with the traditional 2022 harvest debrief and 2023 planning session with Chris Minehan (Rural Management Strategies). Varieties and agronomy will also be a key feature of program, while Ben McClusky (Market Check) will provide an update on the global commodity market and the likely outcomes for 2023.

Rob Inglis (Elders) will also provide a summary of the most important animal health and management issues heading into autumn.

There will also be an open discussion featuring several local farmers and agronomists.

“We are truly excited that Sykesy’s Buraja Meeting is returning for 2023 and we invite the farming community to join us at Buraja as we look forward to 2023,” added Ms Marriott.

Sykesy’s Buraja Meeting will be held on Wednesday 1 February, 2023 at the Buraja Recreational Ground Hall, from 8:30-1:00pm, followed by a complimentary BBQ lunch.
